Application Scenarios of Industrial LEDs (200–2000nm)

Industrial LEDs in the 200nm to 2000nm range cover an extremely broad spectrum from deep ultraviolet (DUV), visible light, to near-infrared (NIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR). They serve as the core light sources for modern industrial automation, smart manufacturing, and precision inspection.
1. 200–400nm: Ultraviolet Band (UV)
    • Industrial Curing & Printing
        • Application: UV LED curing technology replaces traditional mercury lamps, widely used for instantaneous drying of inks, adhesives, and coatings in 3D printing, electronics assembly (e.g., mobile screen bonding), and high-speed inkjet printing.
        • Value: Instant curing, minimal thermal radiation, energy-saving, and long lifespan.

    • Water & Air Purification
        • Application: UVC LEDs (260–280nm) destroy the DNA/RNA structures of bacteria and viruses, applied in industrial pure water systems, wafer cleaning lines, and air sterilization within confined spaces.
        • Value: Chemical-free, eco-friendly, and safe.

    • Optical Spectroscopy
        • Application: Deep UV LEDs serve as light sources in spectrophotometers for pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, enabling real-time online water quality monitoring and high-precision chemical composition analysis.
        • Value: High stability and miniaturized design.

2. 400–700nm: Visible Light Band (Visible)
    • Machine Vision & Industrial Inspection
        • Application: High-CRI white and monochromatic LEDs (Blue, Green, Red) are paired with industrial cameras for surface defect detection, barcode scanning, and precise dimensional measurement on assembly lines.
        • Value: High-contrast imaging and enhanced edge recognition.

    • Plant Factories & Smart Agriculture
        • Application: Combinations of Red (660nm) and Blue (450nm) LEDs match the absorption peaks of plant photosynthesis, used in modern indoor vertical farms for fully artificial lighting to boost crop yields.
        • Value: Precise control over growth cycles and maximized space utilization.

    • Optical Fiber Communication & Status Indication
        • Application: Green and Red LEDs are commonly used for short-distance industrial network data transmission via Plastic Optical Fibers (POF) and for status indication in large control cabinets and automated equipment.
        • Value: Immune to electromagnetic interference and clearly visible.

3. 700–1000nm: Near-Infrared Band (NIR)
    • Smart Security & Night Vision
        • Application: 850nm and 940nm Infrared LEDs serve as the core illumination sources for industrial park surveillance, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, and drone night inspections.
        • Value: Light is invisible to the human eye, offering excellent covertness.

    • 3D Sensing & Time-of-Flight (ToF)
        • Application: IR LEDs and VCSEL chips provide Time-of-Flight (ToF) obstacle avoidance and environmental 3D modeling for industrial robots, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and autonomous navigation systems.
        • Value: Centimeter-level ranging accuracy and rapid response.

    • Wafer & Semiconductor Inspection
        • Application: Since silicon is semi-transparent to NIR light, Infrared LEDs are utilized to inspect internal micro-cracks and circuit alignment inside wafers via transmissive imaging.
        • Value: Non-destructive internal see-through inspection.

4. 1000–2000nm: Short-Wave Infrared Band (SWIR)
    • Material Identification & Hyperspectral Sorting
        • Application: Leveraging the specific chemical absorption features of different materials in the SWIR band, 1050–1650nm LEDs are widely used for plastic sorting in recycling, mineral screening, and grain impurity removal.
        • Value: Enables precise material sorting at the molecular level.

    • Moisture & Food Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
        • Application: Water has strong absorption peaks near 1450nm and 1940nm. SWIR LEDs are used for online moisture detection in paper and textiles, as well as for measuring brix and detecting internal rot in fruits.
        • Value: Real-time online monitoring without destroying the finished product.

    • Wafer Bonding & Photovoltaic Panel Inspection
        • Application: Silicon becomes fully transparent within the 1100–1600nm band. LEDs in this range enable precise evaluation of multi-layer wafer bonding processes and electroluminescence (EL) testing for internal defects in solar panels.
        • Value: Large penetration depth, resolving pain points in microelectronics packaging inspection.
