Industrial Applications of 700-1000nm Infrared LEDs

Machine Vision and Industrial Automation Inspection
  • Surface Defect Detection: Utilizing NIR light (por exemplo, 850nm) to illuminate opaque objects to reveal tiny scratches, rachaduras, or stains invisible under visible light, without causing visual glare for human operators.
  • Liquid Packaging and Level Inspection: Water and liquids exhibit strong absorption characteristics near 900–1000nm. By measuring the transmission or reflection of these LEDs, systems can monitor liquid levels or filling defects inside dark or opaque containers on a production line.
  • Semiconductor Wafer Transmit Inspection: Silicon is semi-transparent to NIR light close to 1000nm. Powered by IR LEDs, specialized cameras can penetrate silicon wafers to detect internal micro-cracks or bonding layer defects.
2. Classificação óptica (Recycling and Agro-industries)
  • Plastic Waste Sorting: Different plastics (such as PET and HDPE) have distinct spectral reflection curves within the 700–1000nm range. Industrial sorters use IR LED arrays combined with high-speed cameras to automatically identify and segregate plastics.
  • Non-destructive Food & Agriculture Sorting: Used to assess internal sugar content, ripeness, or moisture in fruits (commonly using 760–940nm), or to filter out foreign materials like stones, vidro, or plastic from grain conveyor belts.
3. Industrial Sensors and Positioning Control
  • Optical Encoders and Proximity Switches: High-power NIR LEDs (often 850nm or 880nm) serve as light sources in encoders to provide precise velocity and position feedback for robotic arms and CNC machinery.
  • Safety Light Curtains: IR beam arrays are installed around hazardous machinery (por exemplo, stamping presses, welding stations). If a worker interrupts the invisible beam, the machine shuts down instantly.
  • Industrial Time-of-Flight (ToF) and LiDAR Ranging: Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and warehouse robots utilize pulsed 850nm or 940nm LEDs for 3D distance mapping and automated obstacle avoidance.
4. Factory Security, Vigilância, and Logistics Recognition
  • Glare-free Night Vision Surveillance: CCTV security systems in industrial plants or hazardous material warehouses heavily rely on 850nm (low-glow) or 940nm (no-glow) LED arrays for covert nighttime lighting.
  • High-speed Barcode/QR Code Reading: Shiny or film-coated packages on logistics conveyor belts often cause glare under visible light. Switching to IR LED illumination eliminates reflections and drastically improves code readability.
